The purpose of the Mound Bayou School District, Department of Special Education is to provide effective educational programs to students with disabilities, ages 3-20, who are in need of special education and other services necessary to enable them to benefit from instruction as provided for in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and state law.
The vision of the Mound Bayou School District is to be recognized regionally and nationally as a "Star School" performing district. Our mission is to educate students, so that they can compete academically and socially in a global society by providing a knowledgeable staff, supportive parents and community involvement.
The Mound Bayou Public School District will provide a free appropriate public education to children ages three (3) through twenty (20), with a disability who, by reason thereof, need special education and, as appropriate, related services as defined under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997 (IDEA), Mississippi Statues, and the Mississippi Department of Education regulations. A free appropriate public education will be provided to students with disabilities residing within the jurisdiction of the district and who are enrolled in the Mound Bayou Public School District. These services will be provided at no cost to the parent, meet the standards of the State Board of Education as set forth in State Policies and Procedures, and in conformity with a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
